Our Facility

Your pets are your family, and at Burrell Handling we consider them a part of ours. We keep our dogs in our home, so we can be with them 24/7. The lower level of our house is outfitted to provide for your dogs every need. We have crates, rooms, and pens of every size and style so your dog can choose what's most comfortable for them. If they prefer to hang out more with people than with the furry pack, they are integrated into our upstairs area.

Outside, we have eight permanent runs of various sizes. For more rambunctious pets, we have a run enclosed on all six sides. About an acre of our main yard is fenced off so the pups can really stretch their legs. If your dog wants to run with a pack, we are glad to introduce them. If they would rather sit back and watch, they can play in one of the smaller yards and feel included, not overwhelmed.

Surrounded by woods on three sides, the dogs have plenty of wildlife to sniff at- a perfect distraction while training! We also have a cat in our home, and chickens on the property, allowing us to desensitize your pup to multiple animals and environments.

We are always striving to be the very best for you and your dogs, so our kennel is currently being renovated. We are open during this process, but please be aware that it affects our appearance. Our many changes include:

-New indoor runs that form a large play area on rainy days

-Aromatherapy diffusers with calming essential oils

-New outdoor yards for dogs to run in

-Equipment for various dog sports like agility and obedience

-We continually modify our fencing to increase safety for all

-And much more!

Our front and back yards are completely fenced for safety, with several smaller yards within:

  • Yowlers Yard is mulch and grass, with chain link fencing on three sides and attached to the training room. It has lots of play structures for dogs to climb over/under, and has shade from trees all day. Abutting the woods allows for enrichment all day long.
  • The Aisle of Paradise can be closed off to act as a small yard when necessary, but usually is used as access to the yards to either side. It has shade from trees all day.
  • Squirrel! and Echo's Peak both are mulched yards fenced with chain link on four sides, with chicken wire fencing off the roof. They both have a structure to climb on/in, and have tree shade all day.
  • Serena's Court is chain link panels on all four sides, mulched with tree shade all day and play structures to climb on/in. Sharing a wall with the Henny Penny Chicken yard allows for endless entertainment.
  • The Henny Penny Chicken yard is home to our goose and small flock of chickens, allowing your dog the chance to sniff without causing the birds stress.
  • The Puppy palace is our fenced in, grassy backyard. It's on a hill which is great for conditioning muscle tone, has tree shade all day and structure shade most of the day. It goes right up to the woods, so dogs regularly see birds, squirrels, and bunnies.
  • The No Escape Room is (predictably) our most secure yard. Fenced on all six sides, it consists of a cement floor, two cement walls, chain link fencing reinforced with welded fencing in many areas, and is covered by our deck. Dogs can go from their area in the kennel straight into this yard without being in a more open space, so it's perfect for escape artists. It is shady and cool all summer long, and the deck provides enough cover from rain that even dogs who hate getting wet have a spot to go to the bathroom in a pinch.
  • The Observation Deck sits on top of the No Escape Room, and wraps partway around the house. This is not a yard dogs play in unattended, especially as it can get quite hot in the summer, but on nice days we'll use it for free consults or lessons.
  • The Garden is blocked off to dogs, to keep them out of the fresh fruits and veggies. (We're currently updating our fencing in that area, as we had a few dogs hop the fences to eat all our strawberries in years past!)
  • Herding Hill currently encompasses the entirety of the open area once you've passed the gate. This is our largest yard, where we hold classes on nice days, as well as private lessons, events, or fun games for the dogs. The bulk of this yard is on a hill with several different grades, making it ideal for conditioning muscle tone through structured or free exercise. It has shade all day long from trees and structures. Abutting the road allows us to train reactive dogs with passing cars and pedestrians. The size of this yard, and the fact that much of the fencing is woven through the trees, makes it hard for dogs to realize they're fenced in which is great for recall training.

Fun matches, seminars, and more coming soon...

Training and Event center

While we currently have a training space set up in our garage for classes and private lessons, we are currently planning the construction of a much larger facility. It will be large enough to host two AKC regulation sized rings, allowing us to expand on the kinds of training we offer, as well as hosting more events.
